Kinetic Type Analysis

I chose this video for my kinetic typography analysis (Marron5 - Payphone).
In my opinion, the style is very solid in this video with a clean design. The white letters contrast the blue background very well, and the shadow of the text creates more depth.
Here are the principals of animation I noticed in this video:
  1.  0:07 - Slow In
  2.  0:14 - Timing

Apple Watch

Quite recently Apple released their new Watch, called Apple Watch. The iPhone 5-and-up-compatible smartwatch comes in 38 flavors, with different case materials, colors, sizes and interchangeable Apple Watch bands. However, its not cheap. Starting at $349USD and peaking at an outrageous $17,000. The design is quite sleek, but it's also quite limited.

Typography Exploration

My word for this typography exploration assignment was obliterate. In a nutshell, obliterate means to destroy something; to get rid of. I chose this word as I had a few ideas on my mind how to express it, and in result this is what I achieved.

I used a bold, rough font to start off my design. I quickly converted the type to outlines and began to move the letters around.

Still Life Drawing

This is my final result of the still life project I was working on for the past week.

While drawing this I noticed many times that the proportion was off in a few area, and even without a full correction I still got a fairly accurate end result. I managed to get my value scale to about 4 levels, and created crisp, sharp lines in some areas. I was also very impressed with the shading smoothness, as I did not smudge any of the values together.

The Lone Hummingbird

With the "put a bird on it" theme for our lino print project I decided to recreated a hummingbird sitting on a branch, with the intention for entertainment. I started off in Photoshop, as I tried to posterize the original image of the bird into two color levels. Once that was done, I removed the access lines/shapes and thickened thin lines. After this the colors were decided, and I printed the image to use as a reference.

Updated T-shirt Mockup

For this weekly blog post, I want to share my updated t-shirt mockup I created for the Mainstage play this year.

The image is the white version of the t-shirt, with a more vibrant design. The black ink makes the flag contrast more, which drags more attention.

I also added a back design for the t-shirt, which also is in black and red.

Species in Pieces

For this weekly blog post, I want to share a unique website about species that are in "fragmented survival".

The CSS-based website illustrated these species in 30 triangular pieces, creating a low-poly design. As you scroll through the page, the pieces are animated to form a new species, and information about it pops up. A video is also included to explain why the bird is in fragmented survival.

Mainstage T-shirt Mockup

For this weekly blog post, I want to share this t-shirt mockup I created for the Mainstage play this year.
The design consists of a red flag, with the title of the play. Below is the dates of the play.
The design was fairly easy to create: using an image we took in the photo-shoot, I cut out the flag and changed it color while simplifying it as well. Custom brushes were used to create the dusty effects.

Macro Photo

For this weekly blog post, I decided to share this macro image of a pen writing on paper.

In Civics class (when we were given some spare time) a fellow classmate brought up the idea of taking a macro shot, using my phone, after I took a few photos of similar objects and applied filters over them. At first, the macro shots weren't so great; some were blurry, and some were just plain boring, but after some time, we stumbled upon a clever idea.

With him writing on a piece of paper, we got the idea to capture the action in a macro shot. After just 2 attempts, this photo was captured.

Self Portrait

For my portrait I chose photo-realism, for multiple reasons.
First of all, I love the style in general; the purpose of creating a realistic photograph using paint is incredible, and the time/effort that is put into the tiny details really pays off, as I notice these details when observing artworks.
Second of all, I studied this art style for a presentation, which made me more interested in the artwork. I would stare at the artworks using this style and try to find brush strokes while creating the presentation. It made me realize how much thought people put into making their artworks.
